TechNurse is redefining collaboration in MedTech. As part of the DDAccelerator program, this startup is building a platform that connects healthcare professionals with medical device developers – breaking down long-standing barriers in compliance, communication, and employment.
Hello TechNurse and thank you for joining us for the interview! Could you start by introducing your project, what is your specific focus?
Happy to be here. TechNurse serves as the interface between medical professionals and the medical device industry. We enable seamless collaboration between engineers and users, accelerating user-centered development in the MedTech space.
Where did the idea of pursuing a medical topic related to technologies originate? Does anyone on the team have experience in a medical environment?
Two of the three founders are nurses, including myself. Additionally, I studied biomedical engineering. Through our experience, we identified a strong need and genuine motivation on both sides to work more closely together. However, there was no common communication channel, and significant barriers such as self-employment and compliance challenges prevented effective collaboration. This lack of accessible communication has resulted in untapped potential, as well as the development of inefficient and costly medical devices.
I really enjoyed your pitch at the DDAccelerator kick-off session — one part that particularly caught my attention was your description of TechNurse as an employer. Could you elaborate on how this works in practice? Of course, this is one of our unique selling points. We discovered that only 25% of physicians and just 1.6% of nurses are self-employed and therefore, in theory, able to work as independent consultants. For the majority, which is not self-employed, even an offer of €500 for one hour of work would not be attractive if it required navigating the complex bureaucracy and tax documentation associated with self-employment.
Our solution is to offer extremely short-term, yet fully legal, employment contracts for each individual project. This guarantees a net salary and ensures that nurses and physicians are legally protected and insured as our employees—creating a level playing field. Additionally, we maintain transparent and standardized compensation based on experience, independent of the manufacturer, which fully eliminates potential conflicts of interest.
Do you plan to expand beyond medical device development into broader healthcare innovation services, such as clinical research?
We do have ideas for expansion, but it’s critical to us that we respect the trust our medical network places in us. We will only move into new areas where we can provide real, tangible benefits for both sides.
One step we’ve already taken is developing a platform where users can proactively submit feedback on medical devices, which empowers them to initiate the feedback loop themselves.
What were your main expectations from participating in DDAccelerator? Were they met and how?
Our main expectations were to learn from experienced mentors and lecturers and to benefit from the exchange with other startups. However, what stood out most for me was the European dimension of the DDAccelerator. It provided a valuable opportunity to build international connections, which is essential for TechNurse since the medical device market is inherently European.
Have you seen any progress in your project thanks to the DDAccelerator?
The program provided us with excellent insights into messaging and allowed us to deepen our user analysis. I also gained valuable contacts for future partnerships at the European level.
Would you recommend other teams to participate in the DDAccelerator, what was the most beneficial for you?
Yes, I would absolutely recommend the DDAccelerator to any startup that has, or is considering, a European growth strategy.
What do you see as TechNurse's impact in the coming years?
Our vision for TechNurse is to contribute to a future where medical devices are developed in much closer collaboration with medical professionals—working with representative user groups rather than relying solely on key opinion leaders. This approach will lead to more practical and user-friendly products, resulting in much-needed efficiency gains, greater job satisfaction among healthcare professionals, and ultimately, better outcomes for patients.
We’re excited to see how TechNurse continues to bridge the gap between frontline healthcare professionals and MedTech innovation. Thank you for being part of the DDAccelerator—we wish your team every success on the journey ahead!
