Montu, a Ukrainian startup in the Danube Digital Accelerator, is building a web-based product that combines real-time eye-tracking diagnostics, gamified training, and adaptive therapy recommendations. Designed for today’s screen-heavy world, Montu addresses the rising challenges of eye strain, fatigue, and vision dysfunctions by blending medical expertise with accessible, user-friendly technology.
We’re excited to have Montu with us in the Danube Digital Accelerator. Thank you for taking the time to share your journey. Could you start by telling us what Montu is building and what problem you’re solving in the field of vision and cognitive health?
Montu is developing a digital platform designed to detect and correct early signs of eye strain, focus issues, and vision disorders caused by prolonged screen time. With millions of people spending 6–10 hours daily on computers and smartphones, many already suffer from headaches, blurred vision, and reduced concentration. Montu's mission is to make prevention and correction simple and accessible by combining medical expertise with user-friendly technology.
Can you walk us through how your eye-tracking system works — from diagnostics to gamified training and personalized recommendations?
It all starts with real-time diagnostics using a standard webcam; the user doesn’t need to buy specialized equipment. We capture micro-movements of the eyes, analyze how they track and focus on objects, and detect signs of fatigue or dysfunction.
After that, Montu generates personalized recommendations and exercises. The key is that these are not boring routine tasks, but mini-games and interactive activities that develop concentration, coordination, and visual endurance. The system continuously adapts the level of difficulty and offers additional lifestyle tips, creating an individualized therapeutic path.
What makes Montu unique compared to existing vision therapy tools on the market?
We stand out in three ways:
- Accessibility — a simple webcam is enough, with no need for expensive devices.
- Gamified format — exercises are transformed into engaging tasks, boosting motivation and consistency.
- Adaptivity — the system analyzes user data and dynamically adjusts recommendations and workload.
This makes Montu a modern and scalable solution at the intersection of healthcare and digital wellbeing.
Who are the main groups you’re targeting right now, and what early feedback have you received from them?
We are working with three key groups: office workers and students who spend most of their day in front of screens; children and parents, where early detection of vision problems is especially important; and clinics and eye-care specialists who need accessible digital tools. The feedback has been very inspiring: users highlight the simplicity and convenience, while specialists see great potential for remote monitoring and prevention.
Tell us a bit about the Montu team. How did you come together, what connects you, and how did the idea for Montu first emerge?
We came together around a common problem: the widespread issue of screen-induced eye strain. Our team brings experience in product management, neuroscience, healthcare, and technology. The idea emerged from research on visual fatigue and conversations with doctors and patients. At some point, we realized the problem goes far beyond medicine and has become a challenge of the digital lifestyle. That’s how Montu was born.
When joining the Digital Danube Accelerator, what were your expectations? Have the mentoring sessions or workshops already inspired you to make changes or refine your approach?
We wanted to refine our business model, test our go-to-market strategy, and receive feedback from experts. These expectations were fully met: the sessions helped us adjust our target audience, refine our product strategy, and open up new partnership opportunities. It has been a valuable experience that is already influencing the project’s development.
What’s next for Montu? Where do you see your product heading after the accelerator, and what milestones are you aiming for in the near future?
We are now focused on developing the next version of the product and launching pilot projects with users and clinics. In the near future, our plans include releasing a beta version for early adopters, expanding the library of gamified training programs, and building partnerships in healthcare and education across the EU. In the long term, we envision Montu as a leading digital platform for eye health, valuable not only for vision therapy but also for cognitive training, corporate wellbeing, and disease prevention.
We are truly grateful to the Montu team for sharing their story and vision with us. It’s inspiring to see how they are addressing such a relevant challenge of our digital age with creativity, medical expertise, and user-friendly technology. We wish Montu every success on their journey and look forward to seeing their innovation make a real difference in people’s lives.
